Agentes, harness, MCP y factorías de softwareAgents, harness, MCP and software factories

What each piece is, how they fit with today's models (Claude 5.x and GPT-6.1 in Codex), and where things are heading over the next six months.

01

Qué es un agente y qué es un harnessWhat an agent is, and what a harness is

An AI model on its own takes in text and returns text. It does not open files or run anything.

The harness is everything built around the model so it can do real work: the loop that makes it take one step after another, the tools it can use, what it remembers, what it is not allowed to do.

An agent is the whole thing running: a model, inside a harness, with a task.

Cuando hay más de uno: orquestador y subagentesWhen there is more than one: orchestrator and subagents

A subagent is an agent launched by another one, with its own context and trimmed-down tools. It explores or reviews and returns a summary, not all the noise.

The orchestrator hands out the work, gathers the results and decides when it is done by looking at tests and artefacts, not at what an agent says about itself.

Using Claude Code and Codex every day already means using a harness. What is usually missing is defining each project's own harness: a short rules file and one single command that checks the work actually works. In a Godot game, for example, a script that launches the game and takes screenshots automatically so the agent can see its change, without burning tokens driving the mouse.

Qué es un MCPWhat an MCP is

Without MCP, every agent would need its own connector for every service. With MCP you write the server once and it works with every compatible agent.

An MCP server can offer three things: tools (actions the agent asks for), resources (data it can read) and prompts (reusable instruction templates).

The agent never touches the system directly: it goes through the server, which is where permissions live.

MCP, skill y API no son lo mismoMCP, skill and API are not the same thing

Qué esWhat it isCuándo usarloWhen to use it
MCPUna conexión viva a un sistema, con estado y permisosA live connection to a system, with state and permissionsHay que leer o actuar en algo real: base de datos, issues, Blender, un navegadorYou must read or act on something real: a database, issues, Blender, a browser
SkillUna carpeta con un SKILL.md que enseña cómo hacer algoA folder with a SKILL.md that teaches how to do somethingProcedimientos, estilo, pasos de publicación. Costs little context until it is triggered
An MCP usually wraps an API so an agent can understand it

The usual combination: a thin MCP to give access and a skill to explain the workflow. The task manager's MCP creates and searches tickets; the triage skill decides how to label them.

An MCP grants real power: give it the minimum permission possible, read-only wherever that is enough.
What the agent reads can carry hidden orders (prompt injection): a web page or an issue may try to manipulate it.
  • Instala solo servidores en los que confíes.Only install servers you trust.

Hacia dónde vaWhere it is heading

The July 2026 specification points to stateless servers that are easy to host remotely.
  • Más autenticación empresarial (OAuth 2.1).More enterprise authentication (OAuth 2.1).
  • Extensiones: Tasks (operaciones largas) y MCP Apps (interfaz dentro del chat).Extensions: Tasks (long operations) and MCP Apps (interface inside the chat).

Reglas que más rindenRules that pay off most

  • Un solo controlador que decide el orden y el "hecho".One single controller that decides the order and the "done".
  • Quien genera no evalúa. Un revisor independiente supera a la autocorrección.Whoever generates does not evaluate. An independent reviewer beats self-correction.
Few handoffs: according to Microsoft, more than four almost always fail.
  • Traspasos con formato fijo, no conversación libre.Handoffs in a fixed format, not free conversation.
Permissions fixed before delegating, and enforced by the sandbox.

Qué modelo en cada nodoWhich model at each node

Planner and security: Fable 5.1 or GPT-6 Astra, only when the ambiguity justifies it.
Workers: Opus 5.5 or GPT-6.1 Sol; Sonnet or Luna when the task is clear.
  • Exploración y triage: Haiku o Luna, en paralelo.Exploration and triage: Haiku or Luna, in parallel.
Record model and reasoning effort per node: they do not map across providers.

Trampas habitualesCommon traps

  • Más agentes no es mejor: en un estudio, cuatro roles apenas superaron al mejor agente solo (72,2 % frente a 71,8 %).More agents is not better: in one study, four roles barely beat the best single agent (72.2% vs 71.8%).
Several agents writing in the same folder: use worktrees.

Mixing them is a reasonable option: one provider generates and the other reviews, which reduces correlated errors. The cost is maintaining two harnesses. This is my suggestion, not a published recipe: try it on one repo before generalising. Parallel subagents shine at reading; for writing at the same time, isolate each one.

Cómo podríamos estar en 6 meses (abril 2027)Where we could be in 6 months (April 2027)

A reasoned projection, not a fact. Each point starts from a trend visible today; the dots show my confidence.

  1. ●●●Confianza altaHigh confidence

In six months, what works today in one hour could work in almost two, and agents will take on full-day assignments.

  2. ●●●Confianza altaHigh confidence

Sessions will look more like jobs that run while you do something else: launch in the afternoon, review in the morning. The ingredients already exist: codex exec, cloud sandboxes, background servers.

  3. ●●○Confianza media-altaMedium-high confidence

Generating code will be cheap; deciding whether it is good will not. More automatic evaluators on every PR, and the human saved for specific decision points instead of reading the whole diff.

  4. ●●○Confianza media-altaMedium-high confidence

Evals y observabilidad como requisitoEvals and observability as a requirement

Agents will be measured like services: cost per task, failure rate, regressions after a model change. Whoever does not measure will not know whether an update makes their factory worse.

  5. ●●○Confianza mediaMedium confidence

El harness adelgaza y se alojaThe harness slims down and gets hosted

Each model improvement makes some harness rules obsolete. The scaffolding will be simplified, and more people will use a managed harness (like the Agents API) instead of building their own.

  6. ●●○Confianza mediaMedium confidence

MCP remoto, gobernado y con interfazRemote, governed MCP with an interface

With the stateless specification, servers will live more in the cloud, with enterprise authentication and registries of approved servers. The Tasks and Apps extensions will let an MCP run for hours and show an interface inside the chat.

  7. ●○○EspeculativoSpeculative

The system itself picks Haiku, Opus or Fable according to how hard each step is, instead of you deciding by hand.

  8. ●○○EspeculativoSpeculative

Agentes que hablan con agentes de otrosAgents talking to other people's agents

Protocols so your agent can coordinate with an external service's agent. There are proposals, but no dominant standard yet.
